Magazine Analysis

The layout of this magazine is set out in a way that draws the attention of the reader towards the coverlines. This is done primarily to let the reader know what band is being written about in this issue. This is usually a very popular band to try to get more people to buy their issue. The masthead is in black and white this is to make it stand out from the rest of the magazine cover and connotes that this is a magazine designed mostly for teenagers. however it does not draw as much attention as the masthead or the central image. The puffs on this magazine are mostly to do with free giveaways or contests as this cover shows with its free posters and the chance to win a guitar. The bar code and the smaller coverlines have been put in a fairly concentrated area on the magazine this leaves more room for the central image. The central image has been specially selected for the appearance it gives. They have chosen this picture as it makes the band member look more epic with a medium shot and also the prop being his guitar, which shows people that he is the bands guitarist. This will greatly help the magazine as it makes people want to see more of the band and therefore buy the issue.

The language used on the cover is written in a way that fans of the band will understand better than people who are not fans. This can be seen with the line “THE BEAST COMES HOME” this makes the magazine seem better informed about the band itself by using terms that fans will understand and therefore makes the magazine seem more reliable and more likely to have a positive look of the band that they are reviewing. finally there is a section directly above the masthead that uses the bright colours in contract to the darker ones around it to draw attention to the other band names. This shows the reader what other bands are being reviewed inside the magazine and means that people not sure whether to buy the magazine or not are more likely to be convinced when given a better insight into what to expect. 

Preliminary Task and Action Task For Preliminary Task

for this task i will eventually be designing a magazine cover and contents page.

in week two i will be analyzing other  college magazines in order to learn the correct/best layout for a magazine.
in week three i will i will begin to design the front cover of my magazine along with the contents page.
in week four i will be designing the front cover and contents page for my magazine.
by week five i will have completed the evaluation and have posted it on this blog.

Introduction

As part of my AS media coursework i need to create a front page and contents page and a double page feature spread of a new music magazine. i have created this blog in order to record my research and planning.
